About the Role

Norwich City Services Ltd is seeking a dedicated Streets Operative to join our team at Swanton Road Depot and St Andrews Car Park in the City Centre. This role involves working within a service-driven street cleansing maintenance team to help maintain and improve the standard of streets, parks, open spaces, and housing areas in Norwich City Centre.

The successful candidate will be responsible for carrying out street cleansing and maintenance tasks, including emptying street bins, litter picking, pressure washing street furniture, weeding hard surfaces, and sweeping in City Centre bin area locations. Additionally, the role requires daily report writing to a team leader on the condition and standard of each area cleaned, proactively dealing with any issues identified on site, and escalating for further guidance when necessary.

The Streets Operative will drive various vehicles within the scope of an appropriate licence, carry out basic care and maintenance of plant, tools, and equipment, and report any safety concerns, near misses, or defects on plant/equipment immediately using the VRC APP. Ensuring daily checks on vehicles and equipment are carried out and recorded in the VRC APP, including all defect reporting, is essential. The role also involves completing paperwork or electronic records as instructed, promoting equalities and customer care to a high standard, and complying with NCSL policies and procedures relating to health and safety.

The ideal candidate will have a full UK driving licence, demonstrable experience of working in a physical role, evidence of having worked as part of a team, and the ability and willingness to utilise mechanical equipment and be trained on all maintenance equipment. Customer service experience, the ability to work in all weathers, and a basic knowledge of employee obligations regarding health and safety are also essential. The candidate must be able to clearly understand written and verbal instructions.
