Gas safety for residents
Keeping you safe in your home is our top priority. We work closely with councils, housing associations, and other landlords to check gas appliances before you move in, and throughout your tenancy.

Faulty gas appliances can cause fire and explosion, so it’s important for us to check everything is in good working order. Carbon monoxide can also leak from faulty appliances and can be deadly, as carbon monoxide is colourless, and has no smell.

If you cannot attend your electrical safety appointment, please contact us promptly. This will allow us to re-book your appointment for a convenient time and re-allocate your slot to another customer.
If you do not respond or repeatedly refuse to give access to your property, your landlord may apply for a court order to gain access. If you have any concerns, please contact us as soon as possible and we can talk through any worries you may have.

Keeping your appointment
-
Our expert engineers will complete your gas safety check and any necessary maintenance work on the first visit, whenever possible.
-
All Norwich City Council's appointed gas engineers are ‘Gas Safe’ registered.
-
We will work in a professional manner, and not cause any unnecessary disruption to your household.
We kindly request that you:
-
Clear the area around appliances before we visit, allowing us to access them easily.
-
Have money in the meter, as we will need to run appliances to check them.
Please ensure that somebody over 18 years old is home for the duration of our visit.

Gas safety
If you have a gas supply, it is important that you know where it is and how to turn it off in an emergency (gas supplies are usually located outside, where the gas pipe enters the property).
If you smell gas:
-
DO call the Cadent on 0800 111 999 (freephone)
-
DO put out naked flames (including cigarettes)
-
DO open all doors and windows
-
DO shut off your gas supply at the meter
-
DON’T strike matches or light a cigarette
-
DON’T turn electrical switches on or off
